Acupuncture
Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) is a comprehensive medical system based on the writings of various sage-physicians over the last 3,000 years. It provides profound understandings and treatments of the whole person.
Just as energy is understood as both a particle and a wave, the body can be seen as dense, solid matter as well as an electromagnetic field, with the tangible and intangible constantly informing one another—both in pathogenesis and in the healing of imbalances.
Chinese Medicine employs this knowledge through the vibrational component of bodywork and the more material elements of herbs and nutrition. [ more ]
Chiropractic
Chiropractors focus on the central nervous system, which is comprised of the brain and spinal cord. The brain sends messages through the spinal cord across the spinal nerves to deliver information to every cell, organ and system of the body. Physical, emotional and nutritional stresses can cause shifting of the spinal bones, called subluxations. Chiropractic adjustments remove subluxations and nerve interference to the spinal cord and help to increase energy flow to the body, as well as increase range of motion in the joints. Spinal misalignments can lead to headaches, pain, pinched nerves, tingling and numbness and decreased range of motion.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a 200 year old holistic approach to healing that stimulates the body’s own ability to restore health. It acts on the energetic level, healing from the inside out. Homeopathy affects every level of being: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. It is used extensively worldwide, and has been shown effective by hundreds of high quality, peer reviewed studies.
Acute ailments such as viral and bacterial infections, especially recurrent ones, as well as injuries respond well to homeopathy. Chronic disease, however, is where homeopathy truly shines, often stimulating healing in cases that have not responded to more conventional approaches. [ more ]
Massage Therapy
Massage at Whole Medicine consists of a non-invasive approach to doing bodywork. Myofascial techniques are used in order to work with clients who have hypertonic and often painful areas that need to be worked. People who suffer from chronic pain or degenerative illnesses may not be able to tolerate deep tissue and the myofascial work is a way to get into tissue without hurting them. It is a subtle technique but the results are often a very deep release.
Trigger point techniques are beneficial to clients who are experiencing referred pain injury or overuse and are in need of immediate relief. These techniques are much more specific and are designed to find "knots" in the muscles and release them. Trigger point techniques are often combined with sports massage in order to stretch and take a clients joints through a range of motion. This is helpful in both situations of hypertonicity as well as athletes wanting to reduce their recovery time and decrease chance of injury.
Sessions frequently include reflexology techniques as this is a great way to allow a person to relax while also hitting target reflex points in the feet that are directly connected to areas of concern. [ more ]
Interactive Metronome
Interactive Metronome™ (IM) a drug-free brain training technology which is effective at turning on the parts of the brain used in timing, planning, sequencing, focusing and attending. IM is used as a motor assessment and treatment tool used by over 15,000 therapists (OT, PT, SLP's), athletic trainers, educators, kinesiologists, licensed rehabilitation and mental health professionals, psychiatrists, neurologists and psychologists in over 5000 clinics globally.
Hand and foot triggers are worn or stepped upon precisely measure timing accuracy. Personal timing is improved by using real time, millisecond accurate feedback via the patented guide-sound and visual tracking technologies. A patented software algorithm continually re-defines the just-right challenge for each exercise, thus ensuring peak performance.
Thirteen specific motor-exercises retrain the brain by creating new and strengthening existing neuro-pathways. The process is based on the principle of neuro-plasticity which states, "What Fires Together Wires Together". By creating personalized movement patterns to attain specific functional goals IM ensures durability of training results.
Interactive Metronome has been shown to improve behavioral, cognitive, communicative and movement challenges to address multiple learning deficits and motor disregulations. Neuroscience research has revealed areas of our brain which control rhythm and timing are central to all human performance. The efficiency of our prefrontal cortex impact our Executive Function - or the ability to Plan, Process and Execute actions. The cerebellum, amygdala and other vital brain centers regulate our ability to efficiently process auditory, proprioceptive, vestibular and visuals inputs. [ more ]
